I started my day off wonderful
With fasting and prayer

I intended to write on another subject tonight, the great falling away was going to be my subject, when I realized that all our concordances and references books were packed. You see we are moving at the end of the week and I have my computer and my Bible which are a couple of things that are not yet packed away in boxes.

I sometimes hold back on giving my testimony of how I came to know the Lord, because it is a little unconventional to say the least. However it did help me understand my testimony a little better, many years ago, when I read the scripture that said that Jesus touched the mans eyes the first time and he saw men as trees walking and then he touched the man the second time and he then saw everything clearly. That explains my salvation experience the best of any scripture I have found. So bear with me if some of this sounds a bit strange, cause it is.

My first touch was when I was about 26 years old, I was into many things that one should not even dabble in, but there I was anyway steeped in great sin. I won't go into all the details, just to say that heavy metal music and most things that went along with that type of lifestyle were very much a part of my life. At the ripe old age of 26 I found myself at the end of my road, I had opened myself up to so much evil, that I had a spirit of suicide on me and it seemed to be getting stronger every day. After about three weeks of very intense battle in the spirit realm in that area, (although I did not know anything of the spirit realm at the time), I knew something had to happen, I found myself in the middle of my living room saying out loud, even though no one was there, what am I going to do. The thought came very strong out of nowhere, go to church. Even though I did not know where this thought came from, I knew I had to do it. I was desperate for some sort of help and did not know what kind of help I needed.

At that point I called my sister and told her I had to go to church, but I didn't know where to go, she told me of a certain church she had visited a few times, so I went there. I told my then companion, that I did not care what he did, but I was going to church. I knew this would be a very strange idea to him. He decided to go with me. We went to this church my sister had told me about, and thank the Lord the Pastor was a real man of God, he had a word of knowledge, (I did not know what that was either at that time). He began to call out that there was a young couple there that were into this and that type of sin, and he proceeded to name our sins one by one, getting all that he named correct. We were both standing up, I do not remember standing by my own power, I believe the Holy Spirit stood us up. I had a very very strong urge to run to the altar, but the person I was with hit me with his elbow and said we have to get out of here. This all happened so fast I did not know what to do, so I just did what I was told. So we literally ran out of the back of the church, we did not speak to each other until we were about two blocks away, and then the conversation went something like this. What happened? I don't know. I felt like I was going to faint. etc.

I realized later that although I did not physically go to the alter, my desire to go to the altar, the yielding of my heart toward the altar was when the Lord began to work in my life the first time. I saw men as trees walking so to speak. After that, although I did not know what happened and did not start going to church or seeking God at all, things began to change in my life, the heavy metal was replaced with country western music, and some other very bad habits began to drop off, all the time me having no idea that these changes had anything to do with my trip to church that day. Oh yea, the spirit of suicide was totally gone also.

As crazy as this sounds I had been touched by the Lord without really knowing what had happened to me, even though I was still very worldly, drinking, and doing other ungodly things.

Now you see why I hesitate to give my testimony.

But I thank God that there was a day, although it would be about 7 years later, when I would get that second touch and come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. At the age of 33 things really changed dramatically in my life. I was now married with a two year old son, but still my life was a mess a really big mess. My husband was, shall I say less than perfect. That's the nice way of saying it. My only child whom I did not give birth to until I was 31 years old, did not sleep through the night most nights even at the age of two, (who knows why), and I was back to the end of myself again. In a different way this time. I was falling asleep at my desk at work from staying up all night at home. My marriage was falling apart. This had been going on for two years and I felt as though I could not take any more. I thought of pulling my car over and getting out, leaving my purse in the car and just walking away, I could not cope. I knew I could not do this because of my son. Once again I felt as though I could no longer live, but could not die and leave a two year old either. I did not know what to do.

One night it all came to a head, my son locked himself in our bedroom and my husband (at the time) kicked the door in frame and all, because he was angry. I could not believe my eyes, I thought what if my son would have been on the other side of that door. That was it for me. That night at about 11:00 PM in my bed, silently, I cried out to the Lord, and said how sorry I was for the mess I had made of my life, I told the Lord I was trying so hard but just could not cope, and could not do any better, and I just kept weeping and telling him how sorry I was.

The weeks and months that followed would turn out to be the most amazing love story with the Lord that I have ever heard of. I still did not know what had happened, had no idea I had gotten saved. Wasn't really even familiar very much with the term saved. But as the days went by I began to realize something very strange had happened to me.

I did not understand some of the things happening to me. For instance there was a comedian I had been watching on television since I was very small, the older crowd will know his name (Johnny Carson) I thought he was the funniest man I had ever seen. But all of a sudden he was not funny, his jokes seemed crude and ugly. I said to myself what happened to him, and it was as though some how I knew it wasn't him. He was just the same as he had always been, it was me, what happened to me was the better question? I still didn't know.

I also felt more kind toward my husband, I began to be more kind to him, even after all he had done to make me bitter. I could see the look on his face, he didn't even understand it.

I remember one day especially well, after I had noticed numerous changes that had taken place I said I better read this Bible, there must be something to this stuff. At that point the Lord began to reveal himself to me through his word in wonderful ways.

To try and make a long story short I will just say that after that I was not allowed to go to church for the next 7 months by my husband. Shortly thereafter he chose to go his own way, and to leave myself and my son. But through it all the Lord was with me and during that 7 months of no fellowship or church attendance the Lord revealed to me that I was to get baptised and he also led me to began to listen to Christian music, and ministered to me in very powerful and wonderful ways, and led me though that wilderness.

It has been twenty years now since that second touch, and although the road has been long and rocky, Jesus has been with me every step of the way, and has held true on a promise he gave me early on. That promise I wrote down and have carried physically and spiritually for all these years was Psalms 32:8 " I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will guide thee with mine eye."

I am now happily married to a wonderful man of God, my son is now a Lance corporal in the Marines. God has been faithful to do all that he has promised, and truly has led me with his eye.

I have been attempting to write a daily devotional here on my blog, but I believe at this time I will change the format to include writings as I feel led of the Lord. It could turn into a column a week or bi weekly I'm not sure. But I would like to encourage questions and participation as we move along. I have walked through some tough places as I am sure some of you have also, and you never know when I could learn something from you or perhaps you could learn something from me. So please feel free to post questions or comments as you feel led of the Lord.

Proverbs 1:7 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction."

Those were the days when there was power in the pulpit, when men like Charles Spurgeon, Charles Wesley and others said in their writings that they trembled when they had to get behind a pulpit, because they knew they were dealing with the eternity of the souls of men. I can't help but wonder what men like this would think of so called "Christian Comedians"? I'm not sure, but I do know if we want to see the return of the power of God in our lives and our services, we will see a return of the fear of God first or we shall not have the latter.

In Job 28:28 we read "And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord that is wisdom; and to depart from evil that is understanding." So if we would have Knowledge and understanding the recipe is not to difficult. We should have a healthy fear of the Lord, and that will cause us to depart from evil. If we truly believe that God is holy and just, we should fear evil and fear taking the things of God to lightly. The word says that Elijah was a man of like passion as unto us, yet his prayers had power over the heavens to stop rain and then to cause rain to fall. If these words are true, and we know they are, would you not seek him more diligently in order to have this kind of power in prayer.

If your prayers are lacking this kind of power ask God to give you a revrent fear of him, and that he might grant you the grace to depart from evil.

Proverbs 30:5 "Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him."

When something is pure we do not have to worry about corruption, we can be assured that it is what it appears to be without fault. Psalms 12:6 goes even further to show us just how pure the word of God is by telling us "The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times." There is no shadow of turning with God if his word says it, you can depend on it. Sometimes it is our understanding that may be flawed, but his word, I assure you is not flawed. Has the Lord spoken it and will he not bring it to pass. Be sure that if you have been given a promise from God it SHALL come to pass.

We all have earthly parents, and I doubt that any of us have perfect parents who have not made a mistake or given us wrong information at some time or other. But it is not so with God he is a perfect parent who makes NO MISTAKES. In second Samuel verse 31 it is expressed like this, "As for God his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him." It is truly comforting to know that if we have followed God's instructions that we can trust that the outcome will not only be what's best, but it will be perfect.

Like the old hymn says :

Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus
Just to take him at his word
Just to rest upon his promise
Just to know thus saith the Lord

He can be trusted with all that you have and all that you are, or hope to be. May you rest in his loving arms.

Proverbs 29:25 "The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe."

May we trust the Lord today? May we trust the Lord when men try to put fear in our path. I believe we not only may, but we must. If not we shall find ourselves caught in a snare that we can not escape from on our own. Psalms 119:110 says "The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not from thy precepts." The purpose for the fear laid at our feet by the enemy is to cause us to err from the precepts of our God.

Was that not the case in the lives of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. The enemy whether working through a king or a peasant wants to remove your spiritual power from you at any cost. He, (the enemy), will go to great lengths to do so. However we like the Hebrew boys must say though thou throw me in the fire oh King, I will not be careful to answer thee in this matter, for my God is able to deliver me from thine hand, and whether he should chose to deliver me or no, I will not bow down to your God of gold.

Who is mere man that we should fear him?

May the God of all grace deliver you this day.

Proverbs 28:9

" He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination."

A hard truth indeed this may be to us this morning, but ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Is there a prayer of yours that has not been answered? Is there a question in your heart, does God not hear me. Maybe we must first turn our ear to God before he will turn his ear to us. Many scriptures have a sister scripture and for our text today the sister is found in Psalms 66:18 "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me."

Run to him this morning my friend ask if it be possible that you have turned a deaf ear to him in any area and thus caused him to turn a deaf ear to you. I heard a man say once if there was ever a problem, the problem was not with God, however we are mere mortals and the problem could be with us. There has been many a time when the writer has found that this was the reason for her unanswered prayer.

Better to know the truth from the physician and take the proper medicine than let the disease go unchecked, take the medicine as bitter as it may be if it brings the cure.

And may the Lord visit you and answer your prayer today.
